Hello from Statia,
Michele
and I and the rest of the staff here just wanted to
let you know that we
are all doing fine and
things are better than ever. Lisa is still singing
in the band,
Reynaldo is fishing and fixing boats,
Toots has made a
180’ turn and even cut
off his dreads, Duncan is the same only older,
and we have a new member Stefan
who is fitting in nicely.
We have been selected once again for Sport Divers
Best Diving & Resorts publication
this is our third year, so we are happy for that. We
are also excited about some
new things we are doing
with the web site, we have 3 downloadable U/W videos
and will eventually have 5 to see to view. The
downloadable will be a 20mb file size
but we also have flash version on the site. They
are each of a different ecosystem
and showcases the diversity of diving we have to
choose from.
Please let us know how you like them.

Here are some other things going
on........
This year Statia will be celebrating the World Tourism Day with a week of events.
We will be hosting school children at the dive base and Old Gin House on the 24th
and 25th of September and this will be an opportunity for them to see behind the
scenes at what we do here to make our guests comfortable. There will also be
contests in several category’s including Restaurant of the year, Waiter/ Waitress
of the year, Hotel of the year, and Dive shop of the year to name a few.
While I believe we should win all of these it will be up to our customers to fill in a
survey which can also be filled out by island residents online at
www.statiatourism.com please feel free to fill one out. There will be prizes for the
winners and for the hotel and restaurant a plaque. We would like to thank you in
advance for taking the time to fill this out and send it in.
Good and bad news from the Old Gin House, first the bad, Chef Marc has chosen
to move on to new challenges and we all wish him much success. As for the good
news we have been very lucky to have found Chef Tadd who is an award winning
chef with nine years of experience in the Caribbean having worked at many prestigious
resorts in the area. When asked why Chef took this position he said for the small
island feel and the diving, you see, Chef is also a dive instructor. Since his arrival
we have had good comments from the guests about his personal attention and
interest in food quality, and for the food itself…….. WOW!!!

The first hatchlings of Leatherbacks Sea turtles (Dermochelys coriacea) are out
and hitting the water on St. Eustatius. If you have never seen little turtles on there
way before it is something you should not miss. Watching them going out into the
world with all the hopes that one day they well return to the very beach
where you watched them emerge is a special moment you won’t forget.
The nesting season is from early May to the beginning of October. Nightly patrols
are conducted by the National Parks volunteers to view the mothers creating nests
and laying there eggs. It is useful to know when and where they were laid as
this will help the park volunteers determine when they will hatch. Guests are
welcome to join in the nightly patrols to observe the nesting, and the hatchings to
see the juvenile turtles making their way to the sea for the first time.

dive travel on Friday the 11/02/07 at 10:00 in room S319A if you need info on coming
to Statia, you know its sometimes hard to get
here but well worth it!
On the top of the page a fun picture I made of the Charley Brown reef (click to enlarge),
hope you like it!
Talk to you soon, Glenn & Michele and “The gang”.
